*National Weather Center Library Assistant (Administrative)



University Libraries seeks to recruit a Lead Administrative Support Specialist. The National Weather Center Library Assistant is responsible for training and supervising student employees in the National Weather Center Library. Position oversees the circulation desk, reserve materials and Interlibrary Loan/Sooner Xpress operations. Position also assists the librarian in special projects including collection maintenance and statistical data reporting.

Job duties include:

  • Collection maintenance: weeding duplicates, selecting items for bindery, and identifying uncatalogued items; maintains current periodical section
  • Assists patrons with reference, directional, and technology questions
  • Processes and maintains Reserve collection 
  • Coordinates Interlibrary Loan/Sooner Xpress requests
  • Processes journal issues to be sent to the bindery
  • Maintains the current periodical section
  • Assists in personnel selection of student employees; responsible for training, assigning, and checking student employee work.
  • Processes timesheets for student employees
  • Prepares various reports, including student schedules.
  • Assesses office procedures and makes necessary changes in order to improve office functioning; updates student desk and emergency manuals 
  • Supervises circulation desk
  • Plans, coordinates, and expedites student employee projects
  • Maintains spreadsheets for branch statistical data that requires knowledge of mathematics
  • Receives incoming calls for the branch; responds to caller with routine information
  • Monitors and orders supplies
  • Processes mail
  • Maintains office files, including personnel information
  • Works on departmental or unit special projects
  • Develops ongoing channels of communication with faculty, staff, and students of the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences. In addition, supports staff from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) who are on the Norman campus.  Relays concerns, requests for tours, building maintenance issues, requests for purchases, etc. to the branch manager.
  • Performs related duties as assigned to successfully fulfill the function of the position

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED, AND:

  • 12 months of office, clerical, or administrative experience

Skills:

  • Supervisory or team-lead experience
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing applications
  • Ability to follow complex written and oral instructions
  • Ability to work independently

Certifications:

  • None

  • Stand, reach, stoop, and bend.
  • Standard office environment.

Departmental Preferences:

  • 6 months or more of relevant library experience
  • Previous customer service work experience, particularly in library
  • Bachelor's degree
