Grounds Maintenance Worker I (Finance)



JOB SUMMARY

The Grounds Maintenance worker is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and health of all exterior landscaped areas at the assigned high-profile facility. This includes routine lawn care, plant and tree maintenance, snow removal, seasonal cleanup, and upkeep of walkways and outdoor common areas. The ideal candidate is safety-minded and takes pride in creating and preserving a professional, safe and welcoming outdoor environment for employees, visitors, and clients.

Core Duties Include:
  1. Performing daily landscaping to include routine lawn care (e.g. mowing, edging, trimming, weeding and mulching).
  2. Maintaining flower beds, shrubs, and trees through pruning, fertilization, and pest control in accordance with seasonal care schedules
  3. Monitoring irrigation systems for proper operation and assisting in basic maintenance or adjustments.
  4. Removing debris, litter, and leaves from walkways, entryways, and outdoor gathering spaces.
  5. Responsible for snow removal and ice control during winter months. This includes clearing snow and ice from sidewalks, paths and driveways, applying de-icing agents where appropriate and restocking salt bins.
  6. Operating and maintaining a variety of landscaping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, hedge cutters) and a variety of heavy/snow removal equipment (e.g., mounted tractor with loader, bush hog, ground planes, snowplows, etc.) in a safe and productive manner.
  7. Reporting landscape health issues and recommending solutions to the supervisor (e.g., dead plant replacement, erosion concerns).
  8. Apply herbicides or fertilizers as directed and in compliance with safety regulations.
  9. May support sustainability and environmental care initiatives aligned with corporate values.
  10. May assist with set-up or removal of outdoor furniture and fixtures as requested for events or seasonal use.
  11. Utilizes all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for each task, informs supervisor/manager of any safety concerns and communicates in a proactive manner related to safety issues or concerns.
  12. Prepares logs or reports as required for the site; documents site service records for chemicals used and documents regular and routine safety inspections as required for the assignment. Reports all equipment malfunctions/deficiencies immediately upon discovery and documents as appropriate.
  13. Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assigned site.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference depending upon the nature of the position

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship preferred
  • Ability to acquire and maintain local, state or other licenses required for outdoor maintenance (e.g. Applicators license and Right-of-Way Pest Control License, etc.)
  • Ability to acquire and maintain any other specific special clearances/access requirements (dependent on assignment)
  • Valid Driver's license

Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • One (1) year of groundskeeping, ground maintenance, snow removal experience sufficient to meet the requirements of the assigned site, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, as determined by the company.

Background Prerequisites

Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, and behavioral selection survey, in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements

Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing)

Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county and municipal licensing requirements for Security Officers.

  • Ability to safely operate landscaping tools and machinery.
  • Knowledge of plant care, turf maintenance, and seasonal landscape needs.
  • Basic understanding of irrigation systems and landscape safety practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive work ethic.
  • Ability to see, hear, speak, and write clearly in order to communicate with employees and clients.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to be an effective team member.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.

WORKING CONDITIONS (Physical/Mental Demands)

With or without reasonable accommodation, requires the physical and mental capacity to perform effectively all essential functions. In addition to other demands, the demands of the job include:

  • Maintaining composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations.
  • May be exposed to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals who are in or approaching an unauthorized area.
  • May be required to work overtime without advance notice.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing and pulling. Physical ability to lift up to 35 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Use of powered equipment and tools with proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • May require flexible hours during peak maintenance seasons or weather-related events.
  • Frequent standing and walking, bending and stooping which may be required for up to 8 hours per day and may involve climbing stairs/steps and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.
  • Occasionally reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling where appropriate for groundskeeping activity.
  • Close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to use vehicle in the performance of duties. Vehicles are to include but not limited to cars, trucks, snowplows, outdoor maintenance vehicles, electric carts, and bicycles.
  • Depending upon assignment may be exposed to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
