Director Financial Planning & Analysis (E4984) (Finance)



Job Summary
The overall purpose of this role is to lead the IEEE financial planning processes to align with our missions and strategic goals. This individual and their team oversees the development of the operating budget, forecast and long-term plan. They support the IEEE Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer (the staff Chief Financial Officer) and the Finance Committee of the IEEE Board of Directors, while ensuring continuity of financial knowledge as volunteer leadership changes. This role also provides financial planning and analytical expertise to ad hoc committees.

This position reports to the Sr Director of FP&A and Financial Systems and manages 2 or more direct reports. They lead the financial planning and analysis team to create long-term and short-term financial plans that support the strategic objectives of the IEEE.



Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and oversees financial planning, analysis and reporting for IEEE organizational units and monitors linkage to operational plans
  • Analyzes financial performance and forecast projections, identifying trends and making recommendations for improvements
  • Consolidates and analyzes the capital requests of the organization, monitoring annual projections and the impact on cash flow
  • Advises and provides financial planning expertise to the Finance Committee of the IEEE Board of Directors
  • Partners with the Treasurer of the Board of Directors and the Assistant Treasurer (the staff Chief Financial Officer) to prepare and deliver financial reports to senior management and Board members
  • Partners with other teams to align financial plans with operational priorities; this includes collaboration with OU finance (Business Finance Solutions) and operations staff, Accounting, Tax, Financial Services and Internal Audit
  • Partners with the Financial Systems team to administer and modify/update the Oracle EPM system for budgeting and forecasting requirements.
  • Mentors and develops the financial planning and analysis staff
  • Oversees published content on all web pages containing financial planning documentation and reports

Travel Information

  • Some travel required, typically three to four trips per year

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Accounting or business-related Required
  • Master's or other advanced degree MBA with specialization in finance or accounting Preferred

Work Experience

  • 10-15 years Financial planning and analysis and staff management experience Req
  • Background must demonstrate expertise in financial analysis and budgetary operations, as well as strong interpersonal and communications skills. Pref

  • Exceptional analytical, budgetary, and financial modeling skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective partnerships with volunteers and all levels of staff
  • Must be able to effectively collaborate with multiple organizational units
  • Must have polished presentation skills; presents financial information to staff and volunteer leadership, which may include the IEEE Finance Committee, Organizational Unit Boards, and the Management Council
  • Must have strong writing skills; written communications will include budget reporting documents, e-mail correspondence, occasional Inside IEEE articles regarding the budget cycle, performance plans and performance goals for their direct reports.
  • Must be able to document and communicate budget and forecast guidelines, assumptions and processes for IEEE financial planning, execution, forecasting, and to reconcile and evaluate data submissions.
  • Must be technologically savvy with the ability to identify technology solutions to business challenges. Specific technology knowledge and experience needed to produce the desired outcomes include strong computer modeling skills, knowledge of Oracle EPM and ERP and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
