Chemist I (Manufacturing)



SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Science Director, and in collaboration with the Lab Manager, is responsible for performing basic chemist duties, preparing samples for testing and analyzing data after appropriate training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists Science Director and Lab Manager and other lab employees with workflow, sample processing, testing activities, cleanup and proper disposal of waste.
Ensures incoming samples are sub-sampled and prepared efficiently and in accordance with state regulatory guidelines and lab procedures.
Assists with regular maintenance and cleaning of laboratory and lab equipment.
Works in collaboration with other lab staff to meet client sample deadlines.
Performs testing and data analysis for cannabis products on analytical equipment necessary (i.e. cannabinoid profile, residual solvents and/or terpenes).
Processes and enters testing data into LIMS (laboratory information management system).
Monitors laboratory supplies and updates supply requests according to lab policies.
Adheres to the established security procedures of the laboratory and equipment.
Develop new method improvement to existing assays to ensure compliance with changing regulations.
Assist with collection of annual method confirmations and compliance testing such as proficiency tests as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree in a Chemistry related field, and one year of post graduate industry experience required.

Must also demonstrate:
Knowledge of the health and safety requirements for a laboratory environment;
Knowledge of various testing methodologies and SOPs;
Strong time management and organizational skills;
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality;
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as SOPs, quality manual, employee handbook, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as unit analysis, algebraic equations, probability and statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to laboratory results.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve analytical problems and deal with variables related to lab testing. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written or schedule form.
Other Requirements
Must be 21 years of age.
Must be able to pass a background check prior to and periodically throughout employment.
Must have reliable attendance and report to work on time consistently and regularly as scheduled.
Must have neat, clean and healthy work habits.
Must be able to work sensitively within a culturally diverse community.

The noise level is low-moderate. The physical exertion is moderate. Work is performed in a laboratory environment and may require use of personal protection equipment to limit exposure to chemicals or other hazards found within a laboratory environment such as gloves, lab coat, safety glasses. There are frequent contacts and interruptions during the day.
