Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) (Personal Services)



Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded TRIO grant program and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. The mission of the SSS Program is to provide comprehensive academic support services that increase the retention and graduation rates of eligible undergraduate participants by fostering academic success in a supportive educational and holistic advising environment at Simpson University. The SSS Program at Simpson University serves a minimum of 150 participants.The Director of Student Support Services (SSS) will provide direct oversight and supervision of all activities and collaborative efforts in accordance with the established goals and objectives of the approved grant project. The Director will implement student recruitment, application, and selection procedures for the SSS project. This individual will be responsible for training staff and other stakeholders pursuant to all federal regulations, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) circulars, Electronic Data Gathering Analysis and Retrieval (EDGAR) System, and university policy and procedures. The Director will plan and monitor the budget in accordance with program goals and generate financial reports and statements. The Director will also oversee the recordkeeping system that facilitates program planning, development, execution, and evaluation. In addition, this individual will supervise and evaluate all SSS staff.
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, student personnel administration, counseling or related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with undergraduates in student support services, particularly lower income, first generation college students and/or college students with disabilities.
3. Experience with budget development and monitoring, professional staff supervision, and program administration and assessment; grant administration experience preferred.
4. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, in addition to the ability to use computer applications.
5. Proficient with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
6. Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to undergraduates from diverse cultural, economic and academic backgrounds.
7. Ability to work as a team member and leader.
8. Strong problem solving and planning skills.

Essential Functions:
1. Ensure proper and efficient administration of the University's TRIO SSS program, including organizational placement, time commitment of key staff, budgeting, student records management, and personnel management. Coordination with other campus departments and external partners.
2. Financial management of TRIO SSS, records management, and personnel management.
3. Establish administrative and academic policies that enhance participants' retention at Simpson and improve their chances of graduating from Simpson.
4. Implement an evaluation plan that incorporates both quantitative and qualitative methods.
5. Inform students, faculty, and staff of the goals, objectives, and services of TRIO SSS and the eligibility requirements for participation.
6. Ensure that project staff will recruit all eligible students and regardless of gender, race, national origin, color, disability, or age.
7. Provide effective individualized student advising, intrusive academic intervention, financial literacy, and various non-cognitive support services to retain project participants.
8. Provide small learning and support groups.
9. Develop a bridge and First-Year Experience (FYE) program.
10. Develop a connected community of support geared specifically for TRIO SSS participants, both those who live on-campus and those who commute.
11. Develop a comprehensive Internship and Career Advising program.
12. Assess each individual participant's need for specific services through targeted assessment.
13. Provide services that address the goals and objectives of TRIO SSS.
14. Engage in targeted activities specifically designed to increase bonding and inclusion.
