Position: Maintenance Technician II

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Shift: Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday 4x10-hr shifts 4:00am to 2:00pm

What you'll be contributing:

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs mechanical maintenance work requiring a detailed and well-rounded knowledge of specialized mechanical techniques. Inspects, evaluates and performs mechanical repair for faulty equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on plant systems and equipment to ensure proper operation, maintenance and lubrication. Complies with all applicable safety policies and regulations. It is the responsibility of all employees at the Tooele plant to work in a safe manner. Employees are fully expected to engage in our See Stop Do culture following all safety procedures and proactively stopping the job and reporting unsafe conditions, hazards or concerns.

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.

  • Provides production support in the form of specialized mechanical repair to equipment and machinery.
  • Performs welding, mill wrighting, pipe fitting, fabrication, rigging, plumbing, mechanical work and related maintenance and repair as needed for production machinery and equipment including conveyors, gear boxes, air cylinders, air slides, pumps, water lines, valves, compressors, raw mill, finish mill, kiln, silos, etc.
  • Performs structural and steel erection and installation for beams, platforms, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
  • Performs equipment alignment, vibration analysis and fan balancing to prevent equipment malfunctions
  • Maintains machine shop cleanliness and performs job cleanup.
  • Responsible for conducting daily safety inspections including workplace exams, equipment checkout and completing associated forms.
  • Prepares required documentation regarding repairs completed as assigned.
  • May provide vacation relief coverage for the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work on plant equipment and machinery. Inspects equipment for proper operation and lubrication; wear, damage, unusual noise, vibration and higher than normal temperatures. Documents repairs needed and writes work orders, as well as making repairs and adjustments to assure correct operation.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties and job cleanup and assure proper disposal of oil and greases.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

To succeed in this position, you will need:

  • High school graduation or equivalent is required
  • Associates degree or equivalent in technical areas of mechanical repair and maintenance is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or in a related industrial facility is preferred.
  • Addtional training with an emphasis in lubrication is preferred.
  • Experience with MSHA safety training is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided
  • Has a working knowledge of refractories, steel specifications, welding, hydraulics, rigging, fabrication, cutting torch basics, soldering, mill wrighting, mechanics, plumbing, machine shop equipment, torque wrenches and related mechanical maintenance functions.
  • The ability to operate mobile equipment such as a forklift, loader, overhead crane, various kinds of trucks, manlifts, bobcat and related equipment is required. The ability to install various types of equipment and machinery in the plant, read blueprints, drawings and diagrams for mechanical maintenance and repairs is required.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructional and maintenance manuals and demonstrate skills in basic mathematics is required.
  • Skills needed include communication and problem solving skills.

  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication and listening skills

What to expect in a cement environment :

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure. Work requires walking, climbing ladders and stairs, bending, pushing, pulling, working in awkward positions, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds; must be able to work in high places.
