Staff Accountant (Finance)



JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary purpose:

  • Responsible for supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for corporate entities, ensuring the preparation of accurate journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role provides timely and reliable financial information to internal management and the financial reporting group, supports compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements, and contributes to the accuracy and integrity of the company's consolidated financial statements.
Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting.
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of accounting and financial principles.
  • Introductory level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, verbal and written.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

Working Conditions:
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
  • One (1) to three (3) years of previous accounting experience
  • Familiarity and experience with Oracle or similar ERP system is beneficial
  • Intermediate/Advanced level in Microsoft Excel
Compensation:
  • The annual salary range for this position will be $65,000-$85,000/yr.
Other Responsibilities:
  • The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This position may perform other duties as assigned.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP, including but not limited to payroll / benefits, prepayments, shared service allocations, and ASC 842 lease amortization schedules.
  • Ensure all entries are supported by appropriate documentation, reconciliations are completed timely, and discrepancies are researched and resolved in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and research monthly expense variances to budget and prior year at both the entity and cost center level, providing explanations for material variances.
  • Complete Census surveys on a quarterly or annual basis, including coordinating with appropriate parties to obtain necessary information.
  • Assist with internal controls implementation, compliance, and testing to ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the preparation of state and federal reports filed with FERC on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Assist the Corporate Accounting team to enhance business processes and improve departmental efficiencies.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with external auditors by providing requested information and preparing data requests.
  • Assist with ad-hoc reporting requests for internal departments as needed.
  • Regularly utilize Excel spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software; periodically learn and adapt to new software programs.
  • Interact with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively in person, via Teams, and through Outlook, demonstrating strong verbal skills and active listening.
  • Maintain consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate professionalism in all work interactions.
  • Be flexible with work hours and adjust to non-traditional schedules when required.
  • Uphold a strong commitment to personal and workplace safety for the protection of company assets, employees, and the general public.
  • Perform other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as assigned.

Compensation: Compensation ranges are provided in good faith based on what we anticipate when researching wages for this position at the state and national levels. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
