Event Host (Food Services)



At Camp St. Croix our goal is to provide a safe, fun space for kids, adults, and families at the Y to thrive and explore! As a Camp Host you will interact with groups from diverse backgrounds and help provide them the spaces they need to explore the St. Croix Valley. The Camp Host is responsible for assisting the Fall, Winter, Spring Program Director in preparing camp spaces and cabins for groups and may facilitate a variety of program experiences for the families we serve. Examples may include but are not limited to, cleaning cabins, leading hikes, assisting with campfires, etc. This role is ideal for someone who is flexible, self-motivated, has the ability to work weekends, and is passionate about service and the YMCA values of caring, honesty, equity, respect, and responsibility.
The salary for this position starts at $15.50 hourly. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
1. Job Summary:
The Event Host creates a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests and event attendees while greeting and directing guests upon arrival, providing information as needed and ensuring the event goes as planned. The incumbent provides quality customer service and ensures a safe, fun, and positive environment for event participants. Events may include but not limited to birthday parties, weddings, special events, corporate events, galas, and fundraisers.
2. Essential Functions:

Implement event/program services for groups as prearranged through the contract as well as spontaneously throughout the groups' stay, if applicable.
Communicate and collaborate successfully with program staff and food service to ensure accurate information, resources, and staffing, if applicable.
Greet groups on arrival and direct them to their event, meeting and accommodations.
Orient groups to locations of facilities, guest policies, and emergency information.
For youth events, plan and facilitate activities, engage with youth during the party, set up, tear down and clean room, activities and amenities.
If applicable, prepare accurate billing records, close down records, maintenance needs, and incident/accident forms.
Act as a leader in emergency situations.
Provide resources and information to guests.

3. Relationships:
This position's reports to the Camp's Senior Program Director. The incumbent interacts regularly with board committees, community leaders, branch/camp management, staff and volunteers.
4. Qualifications:
Required

Minimum of 16 years of age.
BLS, First Aid and Oxygen Administration certifications required within 30 days of hire
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to act calmly and decisively in emergencies.
Flexibility when dealing with a variety of groups and situations.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience speaking to groups.
Ability to represent the Y with a high level of professionalism.
Capable of working independently and as member of a team.
Must be able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision, and be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
Basic computer skills.
Access to reliable transportation.

Preferred

Prior experience as event host, hospitality, or applicable experience.
Multilingual

5. Working Conditions:

Ability to travel to various locations.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. to support event set-up and tear-down.
Ability to work 12+ hour shifts on event days and be on-call as needed (if applicable).
May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment.
Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently.
Must be able to actively participate in youth games/activities, if applicable.
