Electric Production Superintendent

Reports to: Operations Director

Job Summary: This position is responsible for safe and efficient operation, maintenance, planning, and regulatory compliance of the Electric Production department.

Essential Duties
Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal guidelines, operating permits, and standards that affect Electric Production. Determine priorities for Electric Production facilities and develop short and long-range plans to ensure reliable, cost-effective supply of electric generation to meet customer demand. Collaborate with team members to evaluate, plan and implement process changes to improve electric generation performance, reliability and efficiency. Interpret, enforce, and update departmental policies and procedures. Prepare annual departmental budgets in coordination with frontline supervisors and oversee financial performance. Prioritize capital improvements and prepare the five-year capital improvement plan for the Electric Production department. Review workforce needs, recommend staffing levels, and perform personnel related functions such as recruiting, interviewing, professional development, and performance management. Ensure safety programs and training are implemented within Electric Production as necessary to meet regulatory requirements and the goals of the department and organization. Prepare and present recommendations and reports to Executive Staff and the BPW Board of Directors. Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with regulatory agencies, local governmental units, subordinates, customers, and the general public. Responsible for department records and information management (RIM) activities, including assigning responsibilities and monitoring RIM systems and processes. Work with other BPW departments to improve overall performance and efficiencies of interdependent processes and resources. Perform related tasks as needed.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program, or related field; or equivalent education and experience. At least five years of management experience in the operations, maintenance, planning and/or design of an electric utility. Interpersonal skills necessary to manage the activities of a diverse team and to foster positive and collaborative interactions with colleagues, vendors, customers, and stakeholders. Considerable knowledge of the operating principles and hazards of power generation machinery. Considerable knowledge of Federal and State regulations affecting power generation. Possession of a valid Michigan drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Periodic exposure to environmental hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment. Exposure to extreme hot or cold weather. Able to sit/stand for extended periods of time. Mental ability to work on projects requiring concentration and attention to detail with frequent disruptions.
