Executive Director Philanthropy & Community Engagement (Finance)



RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

The Executive Director Philanthropy & Community Engagement develops long- and short-term business strategies (3-5 years) and is responsible for development, management, and execution of the organization's fundraising and community engagement programs. The Executive Director understands and articulates the needs of the organization for contributions to support strategic growth and in the role of chief fundraiser matches those needs to donors. Continually aligns financial and operational performance to create economic value. Is heavily involved in developing the department's standard operating procedures. Manages and adjusts operating budget, manages expenses and communicates budgetary performance.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1. Planning: Develops and executes strategic comprehensive fund development and community engagement that supports the planned growth of the organization. Participates in related networks; builds and maintains effective relationships with national and local entities. Understands, analyzes, and apply external and internal factors to goal setting and budgeting. This includes identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of partnerships, gifts and grants from individuals, corporations and foundations, building a pipeline of sustainable financial support and engagement for the future.

2. Leadership: Provides leadership for the Development and Community Relations department. Prepares, manages, and executes annual plan and budget with an 18-to-24-month horizon. Tracks progress and adjusts the plan as needed. Oversee the execution of the corporate, foundation, individual, and planned giving strategies and community engagement programs, including oversight of the development of external volunteerism and community investments.

3. Continuous Improvement: Works proactively to anticipate issues and continuously improve programs and practices in conjunction with overall organization efforts; assesses and continuously improves department s effectiveness to ensure business unit and organizational needs are met.

4. Financial: meet/exceed annual budgeted goals. Increase contributed revenue. Increase number and level of donors and frequency of contributions, focusing on major gifts. Improve revenue/expense ratio.

5. Community Engagement: Build strong partnerships with community organizations, local government, and other key stakeholders to advance the organization s mission. Advocate for the organization in community forums, conferences, and public relations opportunities

6. Culture of Philanthropy & Community: Increase philanthropic and community engagement awareness of Goodwill throughout the two-state region. Engages key stakeholders in fund development and volunteerism.

7. Board & Donor Relations: Serve as a key partner to the CMO, CEO and board of directors, providing updates and strategic guidance on fundraising and community engagement efforts.

Develop and maintain a high-level donor stewardship program to ensure donors are engaged and motivated to continue their support. Work with board members to identify potential donors and cultivate relationships.

8. Leading and Developing Talent: Manages organizational design for area of responsibility and directs talent planning, hiring, development and training of staff. May participate in succession planning discussions. Networks and sources for positions throughout the organization.

9. Project and Change Management: Serves as project owner for high complexity department, cross-functional or multi-location projects and improvement initiatives. Set project direction including project scope, timeline and resources. Accountable for making decisions and project success. Manages change through effective planning, communication and coaching. Builds and participates in leadership coalition supporting and implementing organizational change.

10. Community Engagement: Actively engages with community partners and links activities to business performance.

11. Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Bachelor s Degree or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 8 years experience. A minimum of 7-10 years experience in fundraising, philanthropy, and/or community engagement, with a proven track record of success in a leadership role preferred.

2. Strong knowledge of philanthropic trends, community engagement strategies, and best practices in fundraising and donor stewardship.

3. Demonstrated experience in building and nurturing relationships with donors, community leaders, and stakeholders.

4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and inspire action.

5. Strategic thinker with a results-oriented approach and the ability to lead initiatives to completion.

6. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

7. Knowledge of fundraising software and CRM tools is a plus.

8. The role will periodically require travel throughout the region between Milwaukee and Chicago; it will also include special events that may take place in the evenings and/or weekends.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

Job requires the following: remain stationary for sustained periods of time; ability to move about to accomplish tasks; must be able to operate a computer or similar technology, which typically involves substantial motions of wrist, hands and/or fingers; visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing data, operating equipment or review thoroughness of work; ability to communicate with others and exchange information. When determining placement within the salary range for this position Goodwill Greater Milwaukee & Chicago considers education, experience, internal equity, market demands and other qualifying criteria. It is not typical for individuals to be hired at or near the top of the rage for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on facts and circumstances of each case.
