Extrusion Technician (Manufacturing)



Essential Responsibilities

The position of Extrusion Technician is responsible for maintaining production equipment elements like start-up, operation, changeover, shutdown, and preventative maintenance with the extrusion machinery.  Equipment may include but is not limited to, extrusion line equipment, tools, and material.

  • Maintain and control process conditions on extrusion machine equipment and related processes to ensure quality and quantity production standards are met.
  • Download associated quality data as applicable for Quality Control review.
  • Follow documented work instructions, monitor materials, tubing, equipment, cycle times, and part quality.
  • Resolve issues related to tooling alignment, part handling, containment, part placement, process, etc., through proper adjustment of program coordinates, speeds, timers, sensors (such as Zumbach offset adjustments), and tooling hardware.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machines to ensure equipment and tooling are in proper working order.
  • Support the extrusion and molding team in other departmental work as required to maintain the production output in accordance with the production schedule.
  • Follow and operate equipment in accordance with Erbe Medical Company Safety Policy. 
  • Perform manual tasks such as loading and supplying extrusion line items such as ink, reducer and resin and reworking and packaging products. 
  • Follow supervisor instructions for machine line operations. 
  • Report to supervisor with mechanical or operational errors. 
  • Able to work well with others and maintain a positive attitude and good attendance.
  • Responsible for keeping the work area clean and organized. 
  • Provide general plant, production line, and facility clean up.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position is an individual contributor and has no direct supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

This position operates in an office and manufacturing environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  The position also interacts with machinery on the manufacturing floor and numerous devices that are sold by the company.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 8.5-hour days. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and schedule is subject to change based on production schedule.

Travel

This position requires no measurable travel.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree or High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of extrusion and injection molding experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • Experience following work instructions, process documentation and procedures to ensure safe operating of all equipment while producing high quality work.
  • The ability to troubleshoot the current extrusion and molding processes using scientific principles and resolve issues related to production quality (such as dimensional issues, flash, shorts, splay, burns, voids, etc.).
  • The ability to create a new process using scientific principles to optimize cycle time and overall part quality.
  • The ability to troubleshoot the robot program to ensure proper adjustment of positions, speeds and timers to optimize cycle.
  • The ability to create a robot program using teach functions on robot software.
  • A team-driven attitude to work together and support department initiatives such as 5S and Total Productive Maintenance Systems (TPM).
  • The ability to complete production paperwork, which includes inventory accuracy.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Medical device industry or regulated industry experience preferred.
  • Physically able to stand on concrete for 8 – 12 hours per day.

  • Demonstrated high quality computer skills including MS Office.
  • Must be detail-oriented and produce high quality work in a high-volume environment.
