Manager of Editorial Services (Creative Design)
This is a full-time, exempt position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures the continuity of editorial tone and theme throughout the family of Choate printed and electronic publications while tailoring the content to the specific needs of and desired outcomes for Choates primary constituent audiences. Create informational and marketing content for printed and electronic publications, along with citations and remarks for school events. Works with colleagues to develop concepts that ensure that copy and visualization work well together and follow the communications goals and guidelines, effectively. Review all copy (articles, catalogues, handbooks, appeals, flyers, brochures, fact sheets, reports, etc.) submitted to the Communications Office by faculty, staff, or contract writers for content, style, tone, grammar, and suitability for intended audience. Edit copy, rewriting when necessary, and resolve suggested changes with clients. Provide timely resolution of recommended editorial changes with authors, ensuring that they approve final copy before the design process and again in layout. Conduct and/or supervise proofreading at all stages. Develop concepts and write press releases, news, articles, and feature stories as needed about school programs and activities for school publications, identifying topics, and conducting interviews with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents as needed. Write and update web content as needed. Research and synthesize information to be used as background for speeches, presentations, and reports. With the School Strategic Plan as a guide, collaborate with the various parties to determine overall direction for the Bulletin, establishing themes, content that reflects goals of the school and emphases that are dictated by the schools mission and vision. Manage alumni/ae profiles identifying potential subjects in cooperation with development and alumni offices and other sources and ensuring that balance reflects audience interests and cultivation need. Manage the class notes and book review sections, monitoring alumni happenings and releases of upcoming books and creative works by alumni/ae and parents. Contact publishers for review copies, identify and contract with alumni, and faculty, and other reviewers.
