                                                    Senior Staff Accountant

General Information:

Title: Senior Staff Accountant

Status: Full-time; Exempt               

Location/Site: San Antonio

Hours: Monday – Friday, possible weekends   

Reports to: Controller                              

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Travel Requirements: None , but possible.

Position Overview:

The Senior Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the Controller with day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. This position is hands-on and detail-oriented, helping lead the accounting team while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to organizational policies and GAAP standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Controller in managing all accounting operations, including GL, AP, AR, fixed assets, and payroll.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Help ensure the integrity of the monthly close process and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Maintain and enforce proper internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Support audit preparation and coordination with external auditors.
  • Assist in the preparation of variance analysis.
  • Review account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial schedules.
  • Assist with tax compliance processes in-house and in coordination with external tax advisors.
  • Contribute to ERP system optimization and automation of financial processes.
  • Provide leadership and development to junior accounting staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and U.S. GAAP.
  • Deep knowledge of A/R, A/P, Fixed Asset management, and general ledger and how they fit into the overall financial statement story
  • Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Property tax, sales tax, business tax experience a plus
  • Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements and reports.
  • Familiarity with maintaining internal controls.
  • Effective project and time management skills in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and experience using ERP systems
  • Ability to perform at a high level of urgency.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and communicate effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 4 –7 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Valid US driver's license and strong driving safety record (no more than 2 moving violations in previous 3 years).
  • Acceptable background check, clear of DWI convictions, for the last 5 years.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
