Clinical Assistant Professor, Urban Education (Finance)

Description:

The Department of Urban Education at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) invites applications for a non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor position in Math Education, beginning Fall 2025. This is a full-time faculty role focused primarily on teaching and service. The standard teaching load is 15 credit hours per semester (typically five 3-credit undergraduate courses in fall and spring).

Faculty may be assigned to teach in face-to-face, online, hybrid, or hyflex formats and should be ready to support students across different instructional settings and locations, such as Northwest or Kingwood.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Math Education or a closely related field
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in math education or related content area
  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience in PreK-12 settings

Preferred Qualifications
  • A Doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Math Education or a closely related field
  • Prior K-12 teaching experience in math
  • Experience mentoring or supervising preservice teachers, especially in field placements or internships
  • A current teaching license in Texas or another U.S. state

Position-Specific Experience
  • Strong background in mathematics content and/or pedagogy
  • Experience teaching math at the elementary, secondary, or post-secondary level

Responsibilities
  • Teach 15 semester credit hours (or equivalent) each fall and spring
  • Serve as a clinical supervisor or coach for preservice teachers during field placements and internships
  • Teach using various formats and platforms, including Canvas, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other instructional technologies
  • Participate in department and university service, including committee work and any assigned administrative duties
