Research Associate - Neurology (BRAINS Lab) (Finance)



Full-time nonexempt position in Neurology (BRAINS lab)

Dr. Kevin Lin's laboratory, department of Neurology, is looking for a Research Associate who can assist with the day-to-day activities of its research projects in Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease as it relates to poor brain blood flow. The project evaluates the importance of Protein Arginine Methyl transferases in mice brain as it relates to neurological disorders. For this position, the candidate will support lab members with their research projects by producing, collecting, and analyzing data. The candidate will assist in conducting experiments, interpreting the results, and contribute to scientific writing.

Position Summary:

Plans, conducts, and directs a wide variety of experiments. Assists with the day-to-day activities for research project(s) and may impact the success of the research project(s).

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Collects, evaluates, interprets, and documents research data to accomplish to provide results to support grants and publication.

2. Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.

3. Assists in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers and grant proposals for presentation and publication.

4. Plan and design experiments related to different research projects. Research activities may include some or all of the following: traditional laboratory experiments and activities, informatics and animal training/manipulation.

5. Makes independent decisions based on ongoing experimental results.

6. Maintains accurate and timely records which may include notebooks, records, databases, etc. as needed by the research project.

7. Assists with identifying type and quality of supplies needed for research project to ensure cost

effectiveness and ensure smooth operations.

8. Maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

9. Participates in continuing education programs, seminars, workshops, and lab meetings.

10. May provide guidance and training of new laboratory members, support staff and/or other assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high-quality results.

11. Provide updates to P.I. regarding research progress.

12. Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Prefer:

Knowledge/experience in animal behavior, cellular and molecular biology or biochemistry.

Master's degree in science including, neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical science or related.

Experience of Two (2) years in research lab environment.

Certification/Skills:

Considerable knowledge in basic and sophisticated equipment.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in a related field with three (3) years of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Master's degree in a related field with one (1) year of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Doctorate degree.

Minimum Experience:

Years of experience varies based on education level.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

Residency Requirement:
