Traffic Analyst (Finance)



DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International has an exciting opportunity for a candidate to join our New Jersey and New York Operations based out of our Hamilton, NJ office as a Traffic Analyst to provide services for a variety of transportation infrastructure projects including traffic analysis and modeling and traffic engineering design. As a Traffic Analyst, you will be responsible to develop and maintain relationships with local, statewide, and regional clients. You will work closely with our 35+ person local Traffic/ITS Engineering Department and other multi-discipline staff in the pursuit and delivery of projects for clients such as the New Jersey Department of Transportation, New York Department of Transportation, New York City Department of Transportation, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New Jersey Turnpike Authority, counties, municipalities, and other regional clients in the New Jersey and NYC area. You will leverage your engineering knowledge and skills to assist in the preparation of concept and final design engineering plans, calculations, analysis, modeling, reports, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates and schedules.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with field inventory for traffic analysis and design, traffic data collection programs, traffic analysis and studies, technical reports, traffic modeling and simulation, traffic demand forecast and models, transportation management plan and traffic engineering design including traffic signal layout and timing, intersection design, pavement markings and striping, signing and traffic control plans and the preparation of quantity calculations and construction cost estimates.
  • Work closely with senior traffic engineers and project managers to complete design and/or analysis of roadways, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities and other transportation infrastructure.
  • Instruct, guide and mentor junior engineers in the development of engineering design, reports and analyses.
  • Assist with the preparation of design plans, traffic analysis, design calculations and technical reports for transportation infrastructure projects for a variety of local, regional, state, and national clients.
  • Ability to interact with coworkers at local and regional level and clients at different levels. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to efficiently work independently within a multi-disciplinary team and prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines.
  • This position will work statewide in New Jersey and New York, coordinating with transportation staff across all of New Jersey and Manhattan, supporting projects and proposals for regional and local clients and will ensure QA/QC practices for traffic work in the region.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and 4+ years of traffic and analysis and/or design experience.
  • Proficiency with Traffic Analysis software (HCS; Synchro; Vissim), Guidesign and Autoturn software, Microstation, ADA Curb Ramp Design, Traffic Signal Design, Lighting Design (Visual software), Striping and Signing, Maintenance and Protection of Traffic, and/or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
  • Ability to obtain New Jersey and/or New York Professional Engineer (PE) license and a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is not required but encouraged.
  • Experience with state (NY/NJ) and federal traffic engineering design and analysis guidelines, manuals, and standards.
  • NJDOT, PANYNJ, NYSDOT, NYCDOT and/or other local agencies experience is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $77,000 to $83,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
