WHAT YOU'LL DO

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of software applications in a for-profit organization using multiple technologies.  The development team is responsible for both maintenance and development of multiple services/applications that serve several Ascend Learning businesses.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK

This position will work a hybrid schedule from our Leawood, KS office location preferred.  Will consider candidates working hybrid from our Burlington, MA office location.

HOW YOU'LL SPEND YOUR TIME

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines in Azure utilizing Kafka and Java Kafka Streams for ingesting, transforming, and loading data from various sources into centralized Azure data warehouse and Snowflake. Ensure data quality and integrity throughout the process.
  • Implement efficient ELT/ETL processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability. Develop transformation processes to clean, aggregate, and enrich raw data, ensuring it is in the appropriate format for downstream analysis and consumption.
  • Enhance and develop functionality within the Enterprise Applications team using advanced technologies like Java (Spring Boot), Angular, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, JavaScript, Web API, Rest Services, Azure, and MSSQL
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of developers and Product Owners to define and deliver impactful projects
  • Work independently, as well as with team members on different teams and in different locations including directly with business stakeholders
  • Conduct thorough code reviews as a reviewer to ensure high-quality software development Provide technical mentoring and guidance to less experienced Software Engineers
  • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting as needed to support production issues
  • Assist and in some cases be responsible for the design and architecture of projects and features
  • Execute deployments in production and non-production environments and willing to support deployments outside of work hours participate in an on-call rotation

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field or relevant work experience
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in software development for web-based applications
  • Demonstrated organizational and teamwork skills, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to participate in collaborative development projects
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to translate a business scenario into a technical solution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with team members
  • Experience in Java 8 (or later). Spring Boot, .NET, C#, SQL, and MVC
  • Experience in Java (Spring Boot), Angular 12+, HTML5, CSS 3.0 and BootStrap
  • Experience with Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes is strongly recommended
  • Experience with cloud services such as AWS or Azure is preferred
  • Solid grasp of infrastructural and operational principles
  • Strong experience with agile methodologies and principles
  • Experience with Jira, .NET Framework preferred
  • Experience mentoring team members preferred
  • Understanding of an Agile based development methodology or similar formal methodologies
