About the role
Aircraft Ordnance mechanics are required to maintain and service the aircraft armament equipment, upload, and download of ordnance stores/devices, and perform system tests/checks as required in support of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake aircraft. These services are to be provided at the Intermediate maintenance level.

Key Responsibilities include:
Aircraft Mechanics II (Ordnance) must have extensive experience in the maintenance and repair ofNaval aircraft weapons systems.

In addition:
Track, repair, modify, maintain, and perform off-equipment maintenance for aircraft armament systems, guns, pylons, racks, launchers, ammunition loading assemblies, adapters, and suspension equipment assets.
If directed, perform preflight/post-flight checks/tests such as stray voltage, vidicon tracking, missile tone/tracking, and installation of explosive devices.
Utilizes multimeters, flow meters, force retention gauges, and specialized weapon peculiar testers to check functioning and operational readiness of delivery systems such as bomb release/arming, missile, gun rocket, flare firing, and arming circuits.
Maintain and repair all related support and test equipment used to accomplish the work IAW specific aircraft or equipment end item manuals.
Perform off-equipment inspections on ammunition loading assemblies and systems, aircraft gun systems, NIE, AME, including bomb dispensing units or similar trailer chassis IAW equipment specific maintenance manuals.
Coordinate activities with the respective co-located squadrons when activities include items installed on the aircraft.
Respond to notification of potentially unsafe aircraft due to jammed guns and/or hung munitions(s) and/or ordnance(s) and coordinate actions with emergency response teamsto assist load teams as requested by senior leadership.
For jammed guns, hung munitions, and jammed ammunition loading assemblies, be responsible for performing safe-for-maintenance procedures for the particular armament system IAW the aircraft- or equipment-specific manuals.
Any and all other duties as directed by the Site Manager.

Wed love to hear from you if you have:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be familiar with aircraft conventional ordnance, ordnance, ordnance launching mechanisms, armament, loaders, and associated special and general support equipment.
Ability to operate support equipment, working knowledge of the CNAFINST 4790.2, naval maintenance publications, maintenance requirement cards, and the ability to document maintenance utilizing the Naval Aviation Logistics Command Information System (NALCOMIS).
The candidate must have completed AO "C" school, FRAMP training for Navy attack/fighter aircraft or USMC/USCG equivalent, and conventional weapons loading school.
Must be certified to handle all conventional ordnance, experimental ordnance, and explosive driver.
If tasked, must be certifiable to drive a five-ton ordnance truck.
Must pass annual medical screening and physical administered by doctor.
Individuals released from military service with other than Honorable Discharges do not meet minimum qualifications.
Shall be a U.S. citizen and be able to read, write and understand the English language.
Must be able to attain and retain a US Government Secret security clearance.

Experience/ Availability Requirement:
Must have at least three (3) years experience working Intermediate level aviation ordnance, one of which must have been within the last three years.
Experience as an Ordnance Team Member.
Experience with Intermediate maintenance level aviation ordnance handling.
Shall have documented experience with aircraft conventional ordnance, ordnance launching mechanisms, basic upload/download procedures, armament loaders and associated special aviation weapons support equipment and general aviation support equipment.
Must be familiar with all publications relevant to the maintenance of the Type Model Series aircraft appropriate to the assignment and have a thorough practical and theoretical knowledge of the equipment/systems.
As directed by site management, be certified as a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI).
Must have a current state driver's license and be able to obtain a commercial drivers license endorsement for hazardous/explosive material to handle, load, and transport high explosives such as bombs, flares, missiles, gun ammunition, and cartridge actuated devices from storage/assembly buildings to designated loading, arming/dearming areas.
Occasional TDY travel is a requirement of this position.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Primarily in a workshop environment but may traverse into high noise areas or near active jet aircraft operating ramps.
Ability to both sit and stand for long periods of time.
Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key).
This position requires normal physical functions. Work may require frequent bending, reaching, and climbing.
May frequently lift and carry items weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with the assistance of other workers.
Work may be performed on top or under equipment in cramped or awkward positions.
Normal color perception required.
The noise level in the primary work environment is usually moderate.
May be exposed at times to moderate discomforts such as heat, cold, rain, wind.
