Director - Business Development (Finance)



JOB DESCRIPTION

Support the origination and development of energy infrastructure investment opportunities, including organic investments and acquisitions, by providing strategic, analytical, and cross-functional project support aligned with corporate growth objectives.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration (with a concentration in finance or economics), or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8years of related experience

EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
  • Investment banking experience is highly preferred, with a strong background in financial analysis, deal structuring, and transaction execution within the energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Outlook, and other relevant applications to support day-to-day business development activities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex financial modeling, data analysis, and scenario planning.
  • Expertise in Microsoft PowerPoint for developing clear, professional, and impactful presentations tailored to both internal leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and effectively, producing high-quality reports, memoranda, and business cases that communicate complex financial and strategic information.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with cross-functional teams, senior management, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in conducting due diligence, market research, and competitive analysis to support opportunity evaluation and strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.
  • Job level and responsibilities will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skill sets.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers to support travel requirements.
  • Preferred - Professional certifications relevant to the energy and finance industries.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Overnight travel as required.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screening and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • This position will not have direct supervisory responsibility but will be indirectly responsible for coordinating, engaging, influencing and collaborating with internal teams, including senior management.

  • PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Advanced knowledge of low-carbon solutions across the value chain (production, transport, storage, and utilization).
  • Experience in regulated energy commodity markets.
  • MBA or other relevant graduate degree.

COMPENSATION: 180,000-230,000ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and maintain robust financial models and detailed business cases to evaluate investment opportunities, support transaction structuring, and guide executive-level decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of Tallgrass' infrastructure growth strategy, ensuring alignment with market trends, business priorities, and long-term growth targets.
  • Maintain and apply in-depth knowledge of traditional and low-carbon energy markets to evaluate and prioritize strategic opportunities.
  • Conduct due diligence and risk assessments-financial, operational, regulatory, and competitive-to support informed decision-making across business development initiatives.
  • Structure and support complex transactions, including joint development and ownership arrangements, and assist in negotiating commercial agreements to maximize value and mitigate risk.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams (e.g., engineering, finance, legal, project management, procurement, external affairs) and third-party partners to drive project execution.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, memoranda, and presentations to communicate recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and maintain business development tracking systems to monitor opportunities, assess progress, and support execution through project completion.
  • Lead or support stakeholder engagement and outreach initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership and external affairs.
  • Build and maintain a broad network of relationships across the energy value chain to enhance deal flow, strategic partnerships, and market intelligence.
  • Monitor market dynamics, policy developments, and emerging technologies to identify risks, anticipate change, and uncover new business opportunities.
  • Support post-investment activities such as performance tracking, relationship management, and identification of growth or optimization pathways.
