Senior Environmental Consultant (Finance)



The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Senior Environmental Consultant (Part-Time) to our Environmental Consulting team, with flexibility to be based remotely but reporting to our Virginia Beach, Virginia office. This role offers an opportunity for an experienced professional to provide strategic expertise and technical leadership on a consulting basis, while supporting a diverse range of client projects.

Your Role:
• Provide consulting services on environmental compliance, permitting, risk assessment, and toxicology projects.
• Advise clients on regulatory requirements and best practices to support sustainable and cost-effective project outcomes.
• Offer subject matter expertise in environmental health, water quality, toxicology, and laboratory operations.
• Support environmental data review, sampling plans, quality assurance, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external partners to deliver innovative, tailored solutions.
• Grow our business by strengthening relationships with existing clients and supporting expansion into new markets.
• Mentor staff and contribute to training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Support communication and outreach activities with clients, stakeholders, and communities.
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.
• Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
• Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field (required; advanced degree preferred).
• Minimum of 20 years of experience in environmental consulting, toxicology, or related disciplines.
• Professional certifications in environmental compliance, auditing, or toxicology (preferred).
• Demonstrated experience working with Department of Defense (DoD) clients, including Navy, Air Force, Army, or Coast Guard projects.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage technical staff, senior leaders, and community stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with environmental or compliance software is a plus.
• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, approximately 10-15%.

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Physical Demands: Must be able to perform standard office duties including extended use of a computer, attend meetings, and participate in occasional site visits. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment: Primarily remote or office-based consulting with occasional travel to client sites, team meetings, and professional forums. Travel may include domestic locations with variable site and environmental conditions.

Language & Communication Skills:
• Must be fluent in English, both written and spoken.
• Strong report writing and technical communication skills.
• Ability to present technical material clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Other Skills:
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance frameworks.
• Ability to work independently in a consulting capacity while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Mathematical skills for data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Windows.
• Specific software proficiency required and/or preferred: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (required); familiarity with environmental compliance or data management software is a plus.
