Are you passionate about environmental sustainability, water resources, and work that makes a tangible impact on your community? Do you thrive in dynamic outdoor environments and enjoy hands-on problem-solving? If so, the City of Fort Collins has an exciting opportunity for you! We're seeking a passionate and driven intern to join our Water Resources team for a unique and challenging summer experience. This isn't your typical desk job - be prepared to get your hands dirty (and wet!).

Summary:
This internship offers a rare glimpse into the complex world of water resource management. You'll play a vital role in ensuring the reliable delivery of clean water to our community by monitoring, maintaining, and protecting our vital water supply system. This position offers a blend of fieldwork, technical monitoring, and hands-on maintenance, providing invaluable experience in a critical infrastructure sector. This is not a typical office internship and requires physical labor in various weather conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Become a Water Guardian: Monitor reservoir levels, dam conditions, and water diversions, meticulously recording data and estimating flows within our water system, including the crucial Michigan Ditch. You'll be the eyes and ears of our water supply, ensuring its smooth operation.
-Conquer the Snow (When Necessary): Be ready to tackle high-depth snow removal operations, ensuring access to critical infrastructure during winter months. This is a true test of resilience and teamwork!
-Build and Maintain: Participate in construction and maintenance projects on various structures and improvements across our water supply system and treatment facilities. Participate in general building maintenance (painting, cleaning, plumbing, carpentry, and welding) and maintain the Water Treatment Facility site (mowing, sprinkler repair, weed control). From repairs to new installations, you'll gain practical experience in construction and maintenance techniques.
-Data Driven Insights: Provide daily reports on reservoir and ditch readings, weather conditions, and river conditions to the Water Resource Engineer and the Water Resource and Planning Manager, contributing to informed decision-making.
-Control the Flow: Execute planned water releases according to established plans, ensuring efficient and responsible water management.
-Enjoy the High Country: Intern will be required to spend nights at Michigan Ditch cabins.

-Willingness to live up in the mountains several weekdays each week for approximately 12 weeks over the summer.
-Preferred: Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, or a related field.

Ideal Candidate Profile - We're looking for motivated individuals who:
-Are currently pursuing a degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Resources, or a related field.
-Enjoy hands-on work and have a strong interest in environmental systems.
-Can work effectively outdoors in varying weather conditions.
-Have basic mechanical skills or a willingness to learn.
-Are detail-oriented, organized, and eager to contribute to meaningful projects.

Requirements:
-Valid driver's license.
-Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
-Availability to work on-site in diverse conditions (mountain, snow, etc.).
