Position Summary:
Provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for participants from diverse backgrounds in swimming classes/programs. Lead aquatic activities and/or private lessons, providing excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment. May create aquatic program schedules and provide department administrative support as needed.
The YMCA of Snohomish County Stingrays is an adaptive swim team focused on youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Swim Instructors will operate under the direction of the Swim Coach and will typically work in small groups or in 1-on-1 settings.
The swim team practices on Sunday mornings.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Instruct swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly
Assist with onboarding
Leads aquatic instructional activities, serving member needs
Schedules aquatic programs under the supervision of the Aquatics Director
Provide department administrative support as assigned
Develop positive relationships with our diverse members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance
Encourage member and parent involvement and recruit potential volunteers
Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs
Maintain records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
Organizes and puts away needed program equipment
Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed
Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, complete incident and accident reports as necessary
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum age 18
At least 75 hours of teaching learn-to-swim lessons
Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques
Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child (50 pounds)

Current First Aid, CPRPRO (BLS), AED and O2 certifications

YMCA Swim Instructor certification
Fluency in second language desired
